The 3-year community experiment Monte Cerro

Sabine Lichtenfels

Monday, 1 May 2006, marks a historical date for Tamera, a growing community in Portugal, a research model for a peaceful culture without violence, with theme’s as: healing, new ecology and technology, love and sexuality, etc. It starts the 3-year Experiment "Monte Cerro", creating real life structures without fear and violence. In the framework of this project the experiment “Monte Cerro” is to take place with 200 participants on the 134 hectares site of the Healing Biotope I Tamera from 01 May, 2006 on.

“Monte Cerro” is the (preliminary) name of the experiment and the Portuguese name of the site where it will take place. The 200 participants of the experiment will live together, work together, and think together for three years. The possibilities of the co-habitation of human beings and the co-habitation between humans and nature will be researched. Thereby, all questions of co-habitation – social organisation, roles of the genders, ecology, ethics etc. – will be regarded in a new way. It is about the questions: How do we create real life structures without fear and violence? Under what circumstances could a human culture of solidarity emerge? Are there possibilities for new solutions for the central issues of love, sexuality and partnership? How does trust emerge? How does happiness emerge? How does a new integration of the human world into the higher orders of life and creation emerge?“

For me it is like a marvel that this project is now underway. Another marvel is the fact that the opening celebrations with the entire community can take place in the university hall. It was a year ago that I had decided to go on pilgrimage to raise the money for this building.
The wooden floor is lacquered and a wonderful space embraces one as one enters the hall. Until September of this year all planned building phases are financed. From there on - for the last third of the total costs - we shall need further financing.
We thank all those who have helped so generously so that the hall can be realised. May the heavens reward their help.

The biggest of all these marvels however is the fact that the young people who have completed their three years of study at the peace school Mirja are now holding leading positions in Monte Cerro. Increasingly these young people are taking on responsibility and fulfil leading duties. They are between 22 and 26 years old, the same age I was when I joined the Bauhütte and too was challenged to co-lead and help to develop the projects.

The fact that Tamera is developing into a project for the youth gives me great hopes for the success of this project and that it will continue to grow and prosper beyond its founders.
I thank for the guidance which has been granted to us during the past weeks and months.
I thank for the trust and the power of growth. May Monte Cerro become a contribution towards the unfolding of the forces of peace on this Earth.

As a text of empowerment, I have decided to publish the "Rules of Order" which have been formulated by the bearers of the project for the community. They are intended to guide us all, in both happy and difficult situations. Maybe these rules serve also as a source of empowerment to all the friends who accompany our project with loving thoughts from afar.

Rules of Order

1.You are present in a place of research for healing and for peace work. Behave in such a way that your life serves both healing and peace.

2.Become a witness of your thoughts. Talk, think and act in such a way as to generate peace within you.

3.Sound is pure information, a new culture needs a new sound. Therefore, do not make unnecessary noise and be in contact and resonance with “the Whole”.

4.Central to the ethics of Tamera are three basic rules:
Firstly: Truth, this means also in love.
Secondly: Mutual support.
Thirdly: Responsible participation in the community.

5.If you lie to each other or disguise yourselves in front of each other you are turning into an accomplice of global war. Study and follow the laws of transparency and truth. “At the bottom of truth all fear disappears”. (Sources of Love and Peace, pg. 213)

6.It does not serve peace to suppress sexual attraction. In Tamera you have the chance to deal with it in an unobtrusive and thankful way and to learn how the game works. Shyness is no sin.

7.The private right of possession over others does not exist, including over your partner or your children. They do not belong to our selves, they belong to the World.

8.There is no tenure when it comes to love and sexuality. In Tamera you are exposed to another erotic culture. It is not allowed to demand anyone to fulfil your own wants and needs. The Eros is no legal entity but a true gift.

9.Tamera does not promote fast contact and fast sexual fulfilment. Take your time and understand what is meant by free sexuality. Study the intellectual/spiritual basic thoughts of the project.

10.The power lies in the mind. The paradigm change which is necessary for a new culture demands continuous mental/spiritual work. Participation in Monte Cerro requires attendance to the regular SD-Forum and a daily mental/spiritual hour. Full time students are obliged to take part in all events of the education.

11.All beings and fellow-creatures are aspects of ones own life. What we do onto them, will fall back on ourselves. Therefore, treat them with care and never torment an animal.

12.Learn to build up energy within yourself and to conserve it. Never act from affect.

In the project declaration Dieter Duhm describes in detail the planed aspects of Monte Cerro.
