Women’s Global Initiative Forum

PEACE X PEACE is hosting the first Women's Global Initiative Forum in Washington, DC, March 20, 21, and 22, 2006. This Forum marks a crucial moment for the Women's Global Initiative, which seeks to find best practices of connection between members of the Global Network in Muslim-majority regions and their Sister Circles in the United States. The Forum is an opportunity for representatives from these Circles to come together face to face and deepen the connections they have made over the Internet. A product of the forum will be a guidebook for improved communications and best practices for connecting women from both world regions. After the Forum, the application of the principles in the guidebook will be monitored and assessed in order to provide continually improving strategies for quality connection, communication, cross-cultural relationships, and shared action.

Members of the Global Network can contribute to the exciting work of the Women's Global Initiative and the Forum in March 2006 in three ways:

1. Participate

  • tune in to Internet broadcasts (audio streaming online) and podcasts of important segments of the Forum from the website

  • join the 26 participants in their conversation by emailing questions that will be addressed in the following session of the Forum

  • schedule special meeting times that week for your Circle to discuss the topics brought up in the WGI Forum

  • contact molly@peacexpeace.org for more information on how to participate

2. Give

  • make a donation to the Women’s Global Initiative connecting women in Muslim-majority regions with women in the United States

  • help a participant travel to the event in Washington, DC

  • defray room and board expenses for participants while in Washington, DC

  • contribute to the cost of reproducing the guidebook from the Forum

  • contribute to the cost of translating documents from the Forum into the many languages of Global Network members

  • contact maryl@peacexpeace.org for more information on how to give

3. Volunteer locally (Washington, DC and environs)

  • register, greet, and guide participants on location at the Forum

  • prepare and serve refreshments on location

  • host participants in your home

  • welcome participants at the airport upon arrival and see them off when they depart

  • "buddy up" with a participant and orient her to the Washington, DC area

  • contact molly@peacexpeace.org for more information on how to volunteer
